Short answer

Of the 9 registrars assessed here (the ones with a grounded MCP signal, of the 20 this site tracks), only 2 publish an official MCP server today. NameSilo is the only one with a read/write management MCP — an agent can register, transfer and manage DNS end to end (with a sandbox). GoDaddy ships a read-only MCP for domain search and availability that cannot register or change anything. The other assessed registrars — Cloudflare, Porkbun, Namecheap, Spaceship, Dynadot, Hover and Squarespace Domains — have no official MCP, though a few have unofficial community wrappers. If you need an agent to actually buy and configure a domain over MCP today, NameSilo is the only tracked registrar that supports it first-party.

The most capable registrar MCP in the set: an official, first-party JSON-RPC 2.0 server that wraps NameSilo's full 80+-method domain API, so an AI agent can register, renew, transfer and manage DNS and WHOIS privacy end to end — with a sandbox mode for safe testing before it touches a live account. The delegation trade-off is real: authentication is a single account API key passed in an X-API-KEY header, not a scoped, revocable per-agent token, so the credential an agent holds can do anything the account can.

An official, read-only MCP served over streamable HTTP that answers domain-search and availability questions with no authentication, because it exposes only public data. By design it cannot register a domain, modify DNS or change any setting — GoDaddy's documentation states registration and management must be completed on godaddy.com. It is a discovery tool for agents, not a management one.

Registrars with no official MCP

These registrars do not publish a first-party MCP for domain operations. Where an unofficial community wrapper exists, it is noted — but it is not maintained by the registrar.

No official MCP for the registrar. Cloudflare ships MCP servers for other parts of its platform and its Registrar API is the most agent-ready in the set (scoped tokens, a published OpenAPI reference), but there is no first-party MCP that drives domain registration or management.

No official first-party MCP. Porkbun has a clean public REST API — including an unauthenticated pricing endpoint — and unofficial community MCP wrappers have been built on top of it, but nothing official is published by Porkbun.

Community wrapper: Community/third-party MCP wrappers built on Porkbun's public API exist, but Porkbun does not publish an official one.

No official MCP. Namecheap exposes a public API (with an IP-allowlisted key and a sandbox) but has not published a first-party MCP server for domain operations.

No official MCP, and no public API to build one on: Hover (a Tucows retail brand) offers only a partner-program API, so agent-driven registration or management is not possible without a partnership.

An official MCP is the cleanest way for an AI assistant to work with a registrar — but shipping one is not the same as being safe to delegate to.
